Connect Shopify to Walytic and automate order confirmation on WhatsApp
Start native Walytic flows when a Shopify order is created, paid, fulfilled, or cancelled — no automation platform required.
How the connection works
Shopify connects directly to Walytic through a signed webhook:
Shopify order event → signed Walytic webhook → native Walytic flow → WhatsAppThis native method does not require Zapier, Make, Pabbly, n8n, Shopify Flow, or a custom Shopify app. Because you create the webhook inside your own store, there is no Shopify App Store submission or app-review step.
Walytic verifies every delivery using Shopify's HMAC signature, rejects deliveries from the wrong store, and deduplicates Shopify retries before starting a flow. The signing secret is encrypted at rest and is never returned to the dashboard.
Supported events are:
| Shopify event | Typical WhatsApp use |
|---|---|
| Order created | Order confirmation |
| Order paid | Payment receipt |
| Order fulfilled | Fulfilment or shipping update |
| Order cancelled | Cancellation notice |
Each store is a separate Walytic connection. You can add multiple stores and create multiple flows for different order events.
Before you start
You need:
- A Walytic WhatsApp connection showing Connected
- A Walytic plan with Flow Builder access and message quota available
- Admin access to the Shopify store
- The store's Shopify webhook signing secret
- A phone number on each order, including its country code
- Permission to send the customer the relevant transactional WhatsApp update
Step 1: add your store in Walytic
- Sign in to Walytic.
- Open Automation → Shopify in the sidebar.
- Click Add store.
- Enter a connection name and the store's
.myshopify.comdomain. - Enter the webhook signing secret shown in Shopify Admin's Webhooks section.
- Click Create connection.
Walytic generates a unique HTTPS webhook URL for the store. Copy it from the connection card. The signing secret is not part of this URL and is never shown again after you save it.
Step 2: create the webhook in Shopify
In Shopify Admin:
- Open Settings → Notifications.
- Scroll to Webhooks and click Create webhook.
- Choose an event, such as Order creation.
- Select JSON as the format.
- Paste the Walytic webhook URL.
- Use the latest webhook API version offered by Shopify and save.
Repeat this for every event you want Walytic to handle. Use the same Walytic URL for all events belonging to this store connection.
See Shopify's official create and test webhooks guide if the Webhooks section is not visible.
Step 3: create the Walytic flow
Back in Automation → Shopify:
- Choose the WhatsApp connection that should send the message.
- Choose the same Shopify event you created in Shopify.
- Click Create draft flow.
- Walytic opens Flow Builder with a Shopify Event trigger connected to a message node.
- Edit the message, save the flow, and activate it.
You can also start in Automation → Flow Builder, drag a Shopify Event trigger onto the canvas, and choose the store and event manually.
Step 4: personalize the message
Shopify fields are available as variables anywhere later in the flow:
| Variable | Value |
|---|---|
{{shopify.order.name}} | Shopify order number/name |
{{shopify.customer.first_name}} | Customer first name |
{{shopify.customer.last_name}} | Customer last name |
{{shopify.order.total_price}} | Order total |
{{shopify.order.currency}} | Order currency |
{{shopify.order.financial_status}} | Payment status |
{{shopify.order.fulfillment_status}} | Fulfilment status |
{{shopify.shippingAddress.city}} | Shipping city |
Example order-confirmation message:
Hi {{shopify.customer.first_name | there}}, thanks for your order {{shopify.order.name}}. Your order is confirmed.Walytic uses the shipping phone first, then falls back to the customer, billing, or order phone. The number must include its country code.
WhatsApp Cloud connections
An order notification is business-initiated. If the customer is outside Meta's 24-hour service window, a WhatsApp Cloud connection must use an approved Meta template. Select the Cloud transport and template in the message node before activating the flow. Walytic Web connections can use a free-form message.
Step 5: test end to end
Test in either direction:
- In Walytic, enter a WhatsApp number with country code and click Send test event. This uses a synthetic order and requires an active matching flow.
- In Shopify's Webhooks list, choose the webhook and use Send test.
- For the most realistic test, place a Shopify test order containing a WhatsApp-enabled phone number.
Open Event history on the connection card. It shows the event, order, processing status, received time, and how many flow executions started without exposing the raw customer payload.
Managing multiple stores and flows
- Click Add store again to connect another Shopify store. Each store has its own endpoint and encrypted secret.
- Create separate flows for order-created, paid, fulfilled, and cancelled events.
- Pause a connection to make its endpoint return 404 without deleting its flows.
- Deleting a connection deactivates flows that reference it. Remove the matching webhooks from Shopify afterward.
Troubleshooting
Shopify reports HTTP 401
The secret saved in Walytic does not match the signing secret Shopify used. Delete and recreate the connection with the current secret, then update Shopify if the generated webhook URL changes.
Shopify reports HTTP 403
The delivery's store domain does not match the .myshopify.com domain saved in Walytic. Check that the webhook URL belongs to the correct store card.
Event history says no active flow is listening
The Shopify webhook event and active flow must match exactly. An Order creation webhook needs an active flow whose Shopify Event trigger is Order created.
Event history says the order has no valid phone number
Add a shipping, customer, billing, or order phone in Shopify. Include the country code; Walytic removes spaces, brackets, dashes, and + automatically.
Event is processed but no message arrives
Open Flow Builder → History and inspect the execution. Confirm the selected WhatsApp connection is connected and the recipient is on WhatsApp. For Cloud connections, confirm the approved template is valid for the recipient's locale and variables.
Shopify retries the same webhook
Walytic stores Shopify's webhook ID and processes it only once. Retries receive a successful response without sending a duplicate notification.
Shopify approval and security
This setup uses merchant-managed notification webhooks in your own Shopify Admin. It is not an embedded or public Shopify app, so there is no App Store listing, OAuth installation, or Shopify app-review step.
Treat the Shopify signing secret like a password. Only paste it into Walytic's encrypted secret field. Never put it in the webhook URL, a flow message, support email, or screenshot.
